What to Look for When Buying a Used Surfboard

Nothing is quite as exhilarating as going surfing in the open water. While surfing can be a very fun and exciting activity, buying all of the equipment you need to surf can be expensive. To save some money, one great option can be to buy a used surfboard. If you do decide to buy a used surfboard, there are several tips to follow to ensure you buy the best board possible.

Check for Visible Damage
When you are looking at a used surfboard, one thing you must do is check the surfboard for signs of visible damage. If you are buying a used surfboard, it will undoubtedly have some dings and cracks. While these are to be expected and are usually not a concern, if there are major dents and cracks it could be a very bad sign and the board should be avoided.

Look at the Fins
One of the most important things that you need to do is check the fin of your board. You should make sure that the fin is in good condition and does not show any signs of damage. If the fin does show some signs of damage, you should also consider the cost of purchasing a replacement fin when determining which board to buy.

Buy from Reputable Source
Finally, another tip would be to buy the surfboard from a reputable source. While you may be able to get an amazing deal if you buy a used surfboard privately, it could be too good to be true. A better option would be to purchase it from a reputable company that has a track record in providing surfers with quality new and used surfboards.

Don't Make These 3 Common Surfing Mistakes

Just starting out with surfing? Surfing is a wonderful sport that you will get better at through experience. In the meantime, be sure not to make these common beginner mistakes.

Picking the Wrong Board
This is one of the most common mistakes made by beginner surfers. Sure, shortboards are cool and all the pros are using them. But it's not a good idea to start out with one. When you are just learning how to surf, get a longer board that is more stable.

Another important thing to consider when choosing a surfboard is its quality. Don't just buy any board off eBay because it's cheaper. Invest in a high-quality board that will keep you safe.

Not Practicing Regularly
Surfing is a skill that is learned through practice. It's important that you surf regularly, even if it is just once or twice a week. If you really care about getting good, find time for it. Don't do it sporadically once or twice a month.

Not Keeping In Good Shape
Surfing requires that you be in good physical shape. You don't have to be a bodybuilder, but you don't want to be out of shape either. Exercise regularly. Go to the gym. Run, swim, bike, lift weights, and do stretching and yoga exercises. Of course, your diet is also very important, so eat healthy meals with fiber and protein and avoid fattening or sugary foods. Make sure to drink regularly so that you are not dehydrated.
